King, Jr. come to talk with us -- a Colonial Williamsburg-on-stage. Scholars, costumed as famous people, bring our history
and literature to life. It's authentic humanities education that is lively, interactive and fun!
And it's
not a Chautauqua performance unless audience questions are the most dramatic and exhilarating part. In the guise of entertainment,
Chautauqua gathers generations from diverse cultures together to think about and discuss the problems of the day. We're
not about answers; we're about asking questions.

History. Led by Scholars, it's the personal experiences of the audience make them so much fun. SUMMER FESTIVAL - June 19 - 24, 2009 Recalling the
entertainment tent shows that traveled across the nation a century ago, Chautauqua creates an old-fashioned setting where
everyone can spend a summer evening listening to lively music and hearing a great historical speaker debate the issues of
the day. Bring your picnics, share our stories and enjoy! Evening performances outdoors in Falls Park and under the Chautauqua

IN CRISIS : The Times That Try Our Souls
"Crisis - a situation or period
in which things are very uncertain, difficult, or painful especially a time when action must be taken to avoid complete disaster
or breakdown". In 2009 we explore five periods of American crisis where great leaders
spurred the nation to action. As we reflect on times of Crisis Past, we effect our thinking on the Crises Present -
War, Economy, Environment and Citizenship. And so to help us think about these times through the voices
of leaders that took action their times of crisis, we've invited to speak with us:
